Hello from our lovely Dubai!
We recently hosted our first/last networking event for 2014 at our Dubai Silicon Oasis Business Center. Check our Facebook page for Networking events are a great source to get your professional social life in action. Bear in mind that with networking events, the main aim should be getting your company name out there. Branding yourselves and making your faces familiar in the industry. Here, at ABCN, we schedule and plan monthly networking events to
Below are a few networking 101 pointers that could help you through (since we have been there and done that!)
Networking events are all about the mingle. It is important to have a business attire on that you feel comfortable in and is at the same time reflective of your personality. Make sure your outfit fits you and that you feel good in it. After all, one will only feel their best when confident!
Business cards are “tres important’ ... Make sure you carry you carry a whole lot with you because you never know who you might end up meeting. A business card will be your only way of connection to them. People tend to go through their business cards every once in a while, and you would want to stand out and be remembered, yes? (Tip: Make your business card unique)
Networking events are all about meeting people and connecting. Sometimes you go and approach, while other times people approach you. In order not to limit your chances of having people approach you, make sure you don’t cross or put your hands in your pockets. Try to make eye contact and smile. This will portray you as a nice person and will attract more people your way. Offer praise
Nice words stick a long time. To be remembered, put in a nice word to people you meet. Compliment their outfit or ideas. People like people who are “nice”. You will defiantly be a preferred contact by doing so.
Last but not least, to keep a connection connected, you should stay in touch. Step one would be to send a “nice to meet you” email. Try and see if you could both benefit from each other’s expertise or even business circle. Keep in touch with the contacts you acquire – perhaps send them a season’s greetings or drop them a hello, hope all is well at your end mail every now and then!
Keep in mind that networking is about being genuine and authentic, building trust and relationships, and seeing how you can help others. Try to enjoy your time and keep your professional self-intact during these events.. You never know who you might bump into!
